Job overview

The Clinical and Operational Lead for ERAS will combine expert clinical practice, education, leadership, management, and research. The role requires:

  • Liaise with multidisciplinary team members to advise and support colleagues in delivering specialised patient care across professional boundaries within an ERAS setting.
  • Work autonomously to provide high‑level clinical care appropriate to the patient group, based on research‑evidence and quality improvement principles.
  • Execute nurse‑led care and maintain excellent nursing standards through planning, coordinating, delivering, and evaluating services.
  • Line‑manage clinical nurse specialists and therapists within and across specialty boundaries.
  • Lead and support the development and implementation of nursing care programmes for individual patients and the wider client group.
  • Support the planning, delivery, and evaluation of care pathways for a designated patient group.
  • Contribute to training and education within the specialist area.
  • Drive innovative and progressive improvement of patient care by reviewing evidence and embedding research outcomes in practice, including QI activities.
Clinical responsibilities
  • Maintain professional behaviour at all times and promote a positive image of Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Place patient needs at the centre of care delivery to achieve trust and national standards for clinical quality, safety, and patient experience.
  • Lead, negotiate, supervise, and manage caseloads within nurse‑led clinics both onsite and offsite, using advanced clinical assessment skills and judgement to assess, diagnose, order investigations, prescribe medication, evaluate, and review treatment plans.
  • Adjust treatment plans or drug regimens promptly in response to test results or patient condition changes.
  • Provide professional, clinical, and managerial leadership to nursing and associated staff, ensuring a high‑quality nursing service.
Leadership & management responsibilities
  • Deliver professional, clinical, and managerial leadership to nursing and associated staff across the organisation, ensuring a responsive nursing service.
  • Contribute to workforce and financial planning for nursing and support services, collaborating across the trust where appropriate.
  • Implement improvements in nursing practices aligned with local and national agendas and patient feedback.
  • Undergo safeguarding procedures and stay updated on safeguarding triggers and risks.
  • Ensure mandatory training compliance for specialist nursing teams.
Information resources responsibilities
  • Act as a resource for nursing staff in analyzing audit, research, and quality improvement data.
  • Contribute to developing outcomes and service impact measures for evaluating patient response and service needs.
  • Store all information in accordance with the Data Protection Act and Caldecott guidance.
  • Identify educational and training requirements on information resources for relevant staff.
  • Process information electronically and manually.
  • Communicate information through appropriate trust channels.
  • Oversee high standards of record keeping within areas of responsibility.
Person specification
  • Evidence of Grade 8a qualification and experience.
  • Relevant clinical experience with ERAS pathways.
  • Leadership and management experience in nursing services.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and teamwork skills.
