An established defence and maritime technology organisation, specialising in radar sensor and navigation systems, is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join its Engineering Software team.
The organisation is a recognised name in solid-state radar sensor technology, supplying navigation and tactical radar display systems to customers around the world. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior C++ developer to take ownership of complex, innovative software projects within a specialist engineering environment.
The RoleReporting to the Software Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the whole, or an assigned portion, of a software design - from preliminary specification through to verified, tested software.
You will bring expert knowledge of software design, testing and verification to new and existing products, while also supporting and mentoring less experienced members of the team. The role also involves acting as technical liaison with customers, suppliers and collaborators on software-related matters.
Key Responsibilities- Use good engineering practice to produce software for new, innovative and profitable products and solutions.
- Support and enhance existing software in line with commercial requirements.
- Take responsibility for the specification, design, implementation, testing and maintenance of software supporting the company's products and services.
- Provide support, advice and mentorship to less experienced colleagues, acting as a role model for junior staff.
- Act as technical liaison, internally and externally, with customers, suppliers and collaborators on software matters.
- Undertake additional project tasks as required by management.
We are looking for a skilled software engineer with strong C++ expertise and proven experience taking projects through the full software development life cycle.
QualificationsA good degree in a relevant subject (e.g. Software Engineering, Computer Science, or similar).
ExperienceYou will ideally have:
- Excellent understanding and hands-on experience of C++.
- Experience of taking projects through the full software development life cycle.
- Good written and verbal English communication skills.
- Good understanding of Microsoft Visual Studio (2022/2026).
- Experience with GUI/UX or HCI would be desirable.
- Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g. Python, Power Shell) would be advantageous.
