JOB TITLE: Residential Counselor

ABOUT THE PROGRAM: Respite means to take a break. Clients often need a way to take some space from the stressors in their lives and we are here to provide that. Throughout the day you are spending your time engaging with clients, observing safe medication practices, working on daily independent living skills, assessing for risk and crisis situations and providing case management supports as needed.
Clients may utilize Respite as a step down from a hospital or proactively to prevent a hospital stay. The program is staffed 24/7 and you will develop strong relationships with other CHR programs, primary health and pharmacies to best support those in our care.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS:
- Support individuals at a critical point in their journey by providing crisis stabilization and life skills coaching.
- Work collaboratively with a dedicated team to help clients transition toward independent living.
- Assist clients from various backgrounds, connecting them to essential mental health resources.
- Gain valuable skills in crisis intervention, de‑scalation, and behavioral health management.
- Self‑driven, mental health experience, adaptability, and a valid driver’s license.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain physical environment and program standards to CHR, DMHAS, JCAHO and any other licensing standard.
- Monitor medications of all residents in accordance with the adult residential medication policy and procedure.
- Effectively utilize appropriate communication methods/tools to transfer information to other staff regarding the day’s events.
- Teach and assist all residents in areas of rehab including nutrition and healthy living, meal preparation, hygiene, laundry, banking and budgeting, and basic home care skills.
- Assist/Manage administrative functions and tasks at the direction of the supervisor.
- Prepare and facilitate educational and skill‑building groups and one‑to‑one interventions as directed by the treatment plan.
- Collaborate and coordinate care with providers and families as needed.
- Assist residents in addressing medical and psychiatric needs.
- Maintain documentation in compliance with agency and program standards.
- Participate in staff meetings, supervision, trainings and other meetings as assigned.
- Additional duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience: Two years’ experience working with a relevant population preferred.
- Licensure/Certification/Registration: Valid driver’s license required with good driving record.

COMPENSATION:
- Starting at $17.00/hr minimum, commensurate upon experience.
- Actual rates are determined at the time of offer and are based on relevant experience, adherence to internal equity policy, program/location differentials, and other incentives. Part‑time rates are pro‑rated.
