JOB TITLE: Residential Counselor

PROGRAM/

LOCATION:

Alden House, Enfield, CT

Alden House is a 5‑bed, 24/7 Residential program for Young Adults ages 18‑25 who have significant functional deficits as a result of mental illness and/or significant trauma. The goal of Alden House is to teach clients the skills they need to successfully transition to a lower level of care in the community. These skills include daily living, social and recreational, time‑management, interpersonal, conflict‑resolution, coping, and symptom‑management.

The Residential Counselor has the primary responsibility forólicos engaging with clients and teaching skills. The Program Director and Residentialiorn Supervisor provide hands‑on support, guidance, and are available 24/7. The staff delivers services in creative and fun ways to appeal to young adults.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintains physical environment and program standards to CHR, DMHAS, JCAHO, and any other licensing standard.
  • Monitors medications of all residents in accordance with the Adult Residential Medication Policy and Procedure.
  • Effectively utilizes appropriate communication methods/tools to transfer information to other staff regarding the day’s events.
  • Teaches and assists all residents in areas of rehab including nutrition, healthy living, meal preparation, hygiene, laundry, banking, budgeting, and basic home‑care skills.
  • Assists/manages administrative functions and tasks at the direction of the supervisor.
  • Prepares and facilitates educational and skill‑building groups and one‑on‑one interventions as directed by the treatment plan.
  • Collaborates and coordinates care with providers and families as needed.
  • Assists residents in addressing medical and psychiatric needs.
  • Maintains documentation in compliance with agency and program standards.
  • Participates in staff meetings, supervision, trainings, and other meetings as assigned.
  • Additional duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience: Two years’ experience working with a relevant population preferred.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Valid driver’s license required with a good driving record.
