We are currently recruiting for a Qualified Craft Worker (HVACR) to work at our Asnuntuck campus, located in Enfield, CT.

2nd Shift - Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 12pm - 8:30pm; 1st Shift - Friday & Saturday 7am - 3:30pm. Office:

In a state agency this class is accountable for independently performing a full range of highly skilled duties in the maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and systems.
Examples of Duties- Performs highly skilled HVACR tasks on air systems used in heating, ventilating and refrigeration; operates, maintains, repairs, installs, modifies and assembles HVAC equipment which may use Freon or chilled water for cooling and air or water for condenser means.
- Determines required cooling capacity for small spaces; uses and interprets psychometric charts; controls and measures air flow and room pressures; monitors computerized control systems.
- Performs minor tests for fuel-specific gravity and gas leaks; adds water treatment chemicals to boilers; prepares estimates of time, personnel, and materials; keeps necessary records.
- May be the sole worker in smaller trade areas; may install, modify, repair and assemble electrical or pneumatic controls; may inspect and repair steam traps; may remove pipe insulation using OSHA methods.
- Acts as liaison with other units and outside contacts; operates heavy equipment; performs related duties as required.
Considerable knowledge of and ability to apply standard tools, materials, methods and standard HVACR trade practices; strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; ability to prepare estimates and maintain shop records; ability to utilize computer software.
Minimum QualificationsGeneral
Experience:
Four (4) years of experience in tasks in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration trade.
Special
Experience:
Two (2) years of General Experience performing skilled HVACR trades.
Note:
For state employees this experience is interpreted at the level of a Skilled Maintainer or Transportation Maintainer 2.
Substitutions Allowed: Graduation from a vocational/technical school with a diploma may substitute for two years of General Experience. See posting for details on substitutions for UConn and other state agencies. Experience in HVACR on military bases may substitute on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred QualificationsExperience working on a campus or school environment; experience with Johnson Controls, SNE, pneumatic control systems; experience with e-Quip asset management software.
Special RequirementsCT State University:
Incumbents may be required to possess or acquire and retain appropriate licenses/certifications including a CT State heating, piping, and/or cooling license.
Character Requirements:
Background check may be conducted as part of the process.
Requires adequate physical strength and stamina; may require physical exams; may involve lifting, protective equipment use, exposure to hazards, and hazardous materials training (e.g., asbestos, PCB, PFAS) as per EPA guidelines.
