Position Summary

Learning Support Special Education paraprofessional provides direct support to students with mild to moderate learning disabilities, assisting with academic instruction, behavior management, and social‑emotional development. This position requires collaboration with teachers, special service providers, families and other staff to implement IEP goals and create an inclusive learning environment. The ideal candidate is patient, compassionate, and dedicated to helping students achieve their individual learning goals.

The position may involve riding the bus and providing student supervision on the bus to and from the work site during morning and afternoon bus runs.

Responsibilities
  • Instructional Support:
    • Provide individualized or small‑group instruction to students, reinforcing concepts taught by the teacher.
    • Assist students with completing assignments, using accommodations and modifications as specified in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
    • Implement instructional strategies and techniques as directed by the teacher.
    • Utilize a variety of teaching methods and materials to meet individual learning styles.
    • Assist with the preparation of instructional materials and classroom organization.
    • Collect and record data on student progress, as directed by the teacher.
  • Behavioral Support:
    • Implement behavior management plans and strategies to support positive behavior.
    • Assist students in developing appropriate social skills.
    • De‑escalate challenging behaviors using approved techniques.
    • Provide emotional support and encouragement to students.
    • Monitor and report student behavior to the teacher.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Communicate regularly with the supervising teacher regarding student progress, challenges, and needs.
    • Collaborate with teachers, special service providers, and other staff members to support student success.
    • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
    • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, as directed by the teacher.
  • Other Duties:
    • Supervise students in various settings (classroom, playground, cafeteria, etc.).
    • Maintain a safe and organized learning environment.
    • Attend professional development training as required.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License.
  • Current First Aid and CPR (or obtained within first six months of employment).
  • English fluency, as determined through the interview process.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, adaptability, and computer and technology skills.
  • Capable of understanding and following both complex oral and written instructions.
  • Upholds a generally positive attitude and complies with all District policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to federal and state laws, regulations, and policies.
Work Environment and

Physical Requirements
  • Occasional swimming, jogging/running.
  • Frequent lifting ten (10) to twenty (20) pounds; occasional lifting up to one hundred-fifty (150) pounds, with assistance.
  • Frequent sitting, bending, walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, and reaching.
Benefits

Starting hourly rate is $19.79 - $22.39 per hour, based upon education and prior related experience. Benefits eligible: paid time off (PTO), medical, dental, and vision insurance, pre‑tax savings options through Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) with monthly district contributions for HSA.
