Under the direction of a licensed staff member, assist students by helping individuals or small groups of students with basic curriculum work, implementing programming, reinforcing learning skills, and reinforcing discipline procedures. Assist classroom teacher by preparing classroom materials, monitoring students, and evaluating and recording student achievement. May include work with behaviorally challenging children.
Duties And Responsibilities- Assist classroom teacher in preparing materials, administering tests, grading, attendance, etc. Assist with paperwork and documentation as needed.
- Assist students with classroom activities. Assist with curriculum delivery to both individuals and small groups to ensure mastering of subjects.
- Monitor students and reinforce appropriate behavior during various activities such as play, lunch, detention, in-school suspension, in the classroom, or on field trips.
- Perform basic clerical work for the classroom teacher, including typing, stapling, filing, duplicating, taking inventory, scheduling repairs and maintenance, data entry, word processing, laminating, ordering supplies, placing phone calls, materials distribution, and light bookkeeping.
- Assist with other classroom events, such as field trips or fire drills, as necessary.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
- Candidate must have ONE of the following:
At least 48 hours of college credit, passing scores on the Para Pro test, or passing scores on the Work Keys test. Candidate selected for hire must provide documentation to Human Resources within 60 days from hire date. - No experience required.
- Basic knowledge of typical office equipment such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, email, etc.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Intermediate English language skills.
- Intermediate oral and written communication skills.
- Advanced interpersonal relations skills.
- Advanced organizational skills.
- Ability to work alone and with others.
- Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
- Ability to work one-on-one and in small groups with students.
- Criminal background check and fingerprinting required for hire.
- Associate's degree.
- Experience working in a school district or educational setting.
- Experience working with school age children, including those with behavioral challenges.
- If working in the English as a Second Language (ESL) Program, basic bilingual skills and experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse students and families.
- CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Moderate physical effort (lifting up to 25 pounds).
- Frequent bending, reaching, and climbing.
- Eye/hand coordination (e.g., typing, ten key).
- Visual concentration.
- Concentrated reading/writing/mathematics.
- Prolonged standing and walking.
- Squatting.
- Overhead work.
- Occasional lifting, pulling, and/or pushing.
- Normal school district environment.
- May work outdoors when monitoring student activities.
