Position OverviewThe Director of Finance will lead the organization’s financial planning, analysis, accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, and related functions. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate GAAP‑compliant accounting, robust financial models and budgeting processes, and providing strategic insight that drives business decisions. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting, bookkeeping and financial analysis — and hands‑on exposure to accounting systems (e.g., Quick Books or equivalent), budgeting and forecasting, financial modelling, and management reporting.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee full‑cycle accounting operations (general ledger, accounts payable / receivable, fixed assets, reconciliations) in accordance with GAAP.
- Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and annual financial close and reporting.
- Develop, maintain and enhance financial models to support strategic planning, forecasting, scenario analysis, and business case development.
- Lead budgeting and forecasting processes: annual budget, rolling forecasts, variance analysis versus actuals, and key metric reporting.
- Help setup, maintain, and run employee payroll on schedule.
- Design, implement and monitor internal controls around financial processes, bookkeeping, accounting software usage, and reporting.
- Manage and optimize the organization’s accounting software system(s) — e.g., Quick Books or similar — including configuration, chart of accounts structure, system upgrades, and automation.
- Prepare and present financial reports, dashboards and insights to senior leadership: trends, key drivers, risks, opportunities.
- Collaborate with department heads to understand business performance, provide guidance on financial implications, and support decision‑making.
- Lead, mentor and develop accounting / finance staff (bookkeepers, accountants, analysts), ensuring accuracy, timely delivery and continuous improvement in processes.
- Work with auditors (internal or external) as required, ensuring compliance with regulatory, tax‑and GAAP‑related accounting matters.
- Support strategic initiatives: new investments, capital budgeting, pricing / forecasting studies, cost management programs.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of relevant accounting pronouncements, regulatory changes and best practices in financial reporting and analysis.
Required :
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience in accounting / bookkeeping and financial analysis (preferably 5-8+ years).
- Solid working knowledge of GAAP.
- Experience using accounting software (Quick Books strongly preferred; other systems acceptable if demonstrated ability to adapt).
- Experience running employee payroll using Rippling, Gusto, or similar payroll service.
- Proven budgeting, forecasting and financial modelling experience (Excel proficiency required).
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with ability to translate numbers into actionable insights.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, able to interact with senior leadership and non‑finance stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor and manage small finance / accounting teams.
- High level of integrity, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
Preferred :
- Experience in a medium‑size organization (e.g., 50-500 employees) or high‑growth company.
- Prior experience with system implementation / upgrade or process transformation in accounting / finance.
