The Lead Radiation Therapist functions as an integral member of the radiation oncology team. The Lead Radiation Therapist is responsible for accurately delivering the prescribed course of treatment to each patient and closely monitoring and reporting any discrepancies in the patient set up. Lead Radiation Therapist is a role model in demonstrating clinical assessment, interpretive and treatment delivery skills. Demonstrates leadership by overseeing radiation therapists in department and is responsible for ensuring competency of radiation therapy team through training.

Lead Radiation Therapist is responsible for facilitating essential communication to department manager regarding operational issues. Participates in specialty areas such as simulation procedures, IMRT, IGRT, SRS, SBRT, TBI, and HDR treatments. Must demonstrate knowledge and ability to perform all aspects of treatment delivery as well as overseeing the correct and appropriate use of the electronic medical record. Lead radiation therapist will work with manager to conduct regularly scheduled technical meetings no less than once per quarter as well as participating in department quality assurance initiatives.

Performs and fulfills other duties as assigned.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Demonstrates responsibility and accountability in the performance of treatment, assessment, and implementation of the prescribed treatment plan.
• Displays professional conduct essential to the well-being of the radiation oncology patient.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the specific conditions, diseases, and treatment therapies for the patient population of the department.
• Recognizes changes in the patient's status/condition and reports to appropriate personnel.
• Demonstrates effective verbal and electronic communication skills in order to maintain an accurate Electronic Medical Record.
• Utilizes treatment accessories to accurately reproduce the radiation treatment.
• Expertise in the technical aspects of radiation oncology to include simulation and treatment processes to ensure optimal radiation treatment delivery.
