I. Summary of the position
BRAVE Church is a unique assembly of believers that believes in taking ground for God’s Kingdom here on earth. We strongly believe that commission extends to the marginalized and those forgotten by society in our state’s prisons.
BRAVE Prison Ministries has been developed to establish BRAVE church campuses inside correctional environments to provide opportunities for Christians who are incarcerated to change their culture for Jesus. We strongly believe that we accomplish this by empowering, supporting, and equipping the indigenous leaders in those churches to do the work of ministry in their communities.
The BRAVE Church Prison Ministries Campus Pastor will have a strong desire and ability to work within a church culture, a correctional culture, and work with those who have been deeply impacted by harm caused to them, as well as harm they have caused. This role requires a person who is deeply committed to relationships in all these areas.
This Pastoral role will also require someone who is skilled and called to disciple men, and raise up leaders, equipping them for the work of ministry.
II. Experience and Knowledge Required- An ongoing relationship with Jesus Christ demonstrated by regular prayer, Bible study, and worship attendance.
- A member of BRAVE Church who supports our vision and values, as well as contributes time and tithes and adheres to BRAVE’s Statement of Faith and all policy and belief documents.
- A strong desire and calling to help the marginalized in our society, especially those who are incarcerated.
- A healthy family life. If married, the spouse must be a believer and supportive of the ministry, as well as attending single, this individual will display and uphold high moral and biblical standards in his interpersonal relationships.
- Ability to work well with a diverse group of people; will relate well to volunteers, inmates, and DOC Staff.
- Able to represent/multiply the work of the PMP in different meetings/locations as needed.
- Detail‑oriented and self‑motivated while being a team player.
- Strong organizational skills with ability to multi‑task.
- Sober‑minded, free from substance addiction for at least five years (1 Tim. 3:3; Titus 1:7).
- Ability to work collaboratively with church leadership, supporting the broader vision of the ministry with humility (1 Pet. 5:3).
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to understand/maintain budgets and do financial planning.
- Ability to operate common office equipment.
- Proficient in Windows, including Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to attend weekend services and evening activities in your campus throughout the week.
- Endurance to maintain a rigorous schedule of activities.
- Able to pass background checks related to working inside prisons and Jails.
- Strong work ethic, commitment to excellence.
- Weekly meetings with Prison Ministry Pastor (or PMP).
- Any Staff meetings required as designated by PMP.
- Any other Pastoral duties that might be asked of you outside of your campus.
- Carrying and communicating BRAVE vision from leadership to your campus.
- Equipping the Saints for the work of the ministry:
- Developing your inmate Lead Team (LT).
- Supporting your LT.
- Empowering your LT.
- Attending weekend worship service at your Campus at least 44 weeks a year.
- Attending at least one other full day a week in your campus to develop and support your LT and conduct pastoral duties at your campus.
- Plan and execute all services, Bible studies, and events with your LT.
- Work with the facility staff and leadership to support all initiatives that will support their goals.
- Recruits/trains volunteers to minister to offenders in his prison campus, working in conjunction with Department of Corrections (DOC) Faith & Citizens Programs.
- Communicates with DOC officials, as designated, for the purpose of accountability and training requirements for campus personnel and volunteers.
