The House Supervisor ensures high quality, patient‑centered care through direction and supervision of all house‑wide functions during a designated shift. The House Supervisor participates as an active member of the nursing management team and assumes authority to manage all activities and personnel in conjunction with and in the absence of hospital administration.
Major Responsibilities- Quality – Assume responsibility for supervision and coordination of all house‑wide functions during the designated shift; make decisions regarding patient care and staff management using established policies and procedures; participate in the monitoring, evaluation, and delivery of nursing care; prioritize clinical rounds; assign nursing staff to specific clinical areas, adjust staffing, and coordinate overtime; serve as authority in the absence of other members of the nursing management/administrative team;
direct staff in emergency situations; support internal/external benchmarks, accreditations, and designations; ensure compliance with all policies, procedures, and regulatory standards; manage admission and discharge processes; facilitate effective interdisciplinary care coordination; act as a resource for employee health issues; participate in emergency/disaster preparedness; respond to emergency codes and communicate with external agencies. - Service – Model, promote, and hold staff accountable for attaining an unparalleled patient experience; ensure compliance with evidence‑based practices; collaborate with subject matter experts to create a teamwork environment; support a patient‑first philosophy and engage in service recovery.
- People – Lead in a way that inspires commitment to the organization’s vision, mission, and values; function as a resource for staff, providing coaching, feedback, and training; administer corrective/disciplinary actions; consult with unit supervisors/charge nurses on performance; serve as interface between healthcare providers and community support systems; support physician partnerships; maintain current professional knowledge and skills.
- Growth – Represent the organization positively within the community; participate in company‑supported community/patient events and in‑services; serve as a representative of Employee Health Nurse during non‑business hours as needed; manage clinical projects and serve on hospital committees; provide input into formalization, implementation, and evaluation of long and short‑term goals for the nursing department.
