Position Summary

The Campus Safety Monitor will work to establish positive student, staff and parental rapport that allows for a proactive response to potential problems. Under the direction of the School Administration and the Director of Safety and Security, the Campus Safety Monitor is responsible for providing a safe and secure school environment and promoting an optimal learning environment for students and staff, by deterring unsafe or poor behavior by patrolling the campus, monitoring student behavior, adhering to the school and District policies, intervening in physical encounters, de‑escalating agitated/aggressive individuals, reviewing security cameras, monitoring visitors and reporting unsafe or unhealthy conditions.

The Security Monitor is also responsible for protecting school property against vandalism, illegal entry, fire and theft.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities Campus Safety and Security
  • Patrol and monitor the campus to ensure the safety and well‑being of students and staff and the security of the facility.
  • Maintain campus security and protect District property against vandalism, illegal entry, fire and theft; inspect and monitor doors to ensure they are closed and secure; patrol grounds for security and unauthorized visitors.
  • Intervene in situations likely to result in disruption or injury and direct students to refrain from such conduct.
  • Ensure a smooth traffic flow of students through the hallways, assisting students with on‑time arrival to class and to assigned locations.
  • Assist with supervision during the breakfast and lunch periods and with morning arrival and afternoon dismissal of students.
  • Escort disruptive students from classes when needed.
  • Assist staff in handling emergencies or de‑escalating disruptive situations.
  • Secure proper identification from staff, students, and visitors and intercept unauthorized visitors and escort them to exits.
  • Report any discipline infractions, unauthorized visitors, and acts of vandalism to the building administration.
  • Prevent illegal parking, tampering with vehicles and loitering in school parking lots according to established procedures; assist with traffic and crowd control at special events as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate records, including door check log, in accordance with professional standards, state guidelines and school system policy.
  • Follow the schedule for work tasks independently.
Public Relations
  • Display ethical and professional behavior in working with students, families, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school.
  • Promote student responsibility for behavior and attitude by serving as a role model and performing professionally.
  • Welcome and assist visitors with directions.
Communication
  • Notify the building administration of any emergency, potentially dangerous or unusual situations.
  • Immediately notify building administration of evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide or individuals appearing to be under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances.
  • Effectively communicate and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work.
Confidentiality/Board Policy/Law
  • Protect confidentiality of information about students/staff, and use discretion when sharing any such information within legal confines.
  • Adhere to District/School rules and regulations, Colorado law, Board of Education policies and procedures.
Training/Certifications
  • Participate/Complete all required training courses, including but not limited to:
    Restorative Practices, Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention, FEMA, First Aid/CPR, Public School Works.

Personal Appearance
  • Wear designated attire in a presentable manner during assigned work hours.
