WebsitePosition SummaryProvides surgical assistance in the operating room to the primary surgeon during surgical procedures as a Certified First Assistant (CFA) and functions in the role of a surgical technician when not performing as a CFA. Responsible for planning and preparing for technically advanced surgical procedures in a multi‑service setting and functions as a collaborative team member in a surgical suite.
Job Duties /Responsibilities- Completes annual contact requirements, attends 75% of the unit meetings either by attendance or reading of the minutes.
- Attend all mandatory in‑services.
- Documentation of 10 educational hours in addition to mandatory in‑services.
- Participates in orientation and cross‑training of new employees, students, and department personnel as requested and documented in chronological order.
- Demonstrates correct Materials Management (instruments, sponges, needles, etc.).
- Displays various transfer techniques with sharps, as needed.
- Accountability of surgical objects.
- Accountability and care of surgical specimens.
- Demonstrates self‑directed learning and participates in continuing education annually to meet own professional development and department specific requirements.

- High school graduate or GED
- BLS certification required.
- Certified First Assistance (CFA) required.
- Three (3) years OR experience preferred. Minimum of one (1) year required.
- Good communication skills.
- Typing and basic computer skills required.
