POSITION

PURPOSE:

Provide manual labor support for concrete technicians to ensure the safety and quality of transportation for City of Enid residents. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
  • Clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, and clean up rubble, debris, and other waste materials.
  • Assist Concrete Technicians in operating equipment used to apply concrete, asphalt, or other materials to roadways and parking lots, or equipment used for tamping gravel, dirt, or other materials.
  • Operate City vehicles to transport equipment and/or supplies and travel between work sites.
  • Assist with removing existing concrete using a jackhammer and clear work area of debris.
  • Measure, mark, or record openings or distances to layout areas where construction work will be performed.
  • Clean chipped areas, using wire brush, and feel and observe surface to determine if it is rough or uneven.
  • Start engine, move throttles, controls, and levers to operate backhoe, skid steer, and front end loader.
  • Assist in setting the forms that hold concrete to the desired pitch and depth, and align them.
  • Assist in spreading, leveling, and smoothing concrete, using rake, shovel, hand or power trowel, hand or power screed, and float. Lift rubble to remove old concrete.
  • Reach and lift to get equipment from truck bed.
  • Lubricate, clean, or repair machinery, equipment, or tools.
  • Provide assistance to other departments as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
  • The Utility Maintenance Department runs smoothly and efficiently.
  • Unsafe areas of concrete are removed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Assisted the Concrete Technicians to ensure the creation of new concrete areas is completed with proficient craftsmanship in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Effective working relations exist with City personnel.
  • New employees are well trained and assisted. Management is appropriately informed.
  • Employee understands and adheres to applicable safety policies.
  • The City’s professional reputation is maintained.
QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION/

EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma of general education degree (GED); or six months to one year related experience and or/training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES:

Possession of a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION

Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of highways and roads.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Working knowledge of operating various hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists.
  • Ability to operate a backhoe, skid steer, and front end loader.
  • Handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to assist and support others.
  • Able to operate telephone, PC, copier, and other basic business machines.
