POSITION

PURPOSE:

To provide quality of life to Enid residents through the efficient removal of waste refuse from residential and commercial locations as designated by an established route.

• Lift, pick up and carry sacks, containers and loads of refuse from collection site to the collection vehicle.
• Push and pull to maneuver dumpsters and containers for hookup to collection vehicle.
• Operate control and mechanical apparatus to cause loading, compressing and dumping of refuse by the vehicle.
• Provide directional assistance to the collection vehicle driver to ensure backing and other confining driving maneuvers are accomplished safely and in accordance with policy.
• Follow all safe working practices, be proactive in identifying dangers, and be knowledgeable of safety procedures applicable to the position to include, but not limited to working in and around traffic.
• Check condition of equipment, commercial refuse containers, and other apparatus and report any defects, malfunctions or damage.
• Maintain and make repairs to dumpsters as needed, including changing out wheels.
• Assist driver of collection vehicle in maintaining cleanliness of the vehicle and ensuring that vehicle is checked daily and maintained in a safe operating condition.
• Drive City vehicle to deliver and remove carts and dumpsters.
• Operate latches, gates, keys and/or keypads to access restricted areas.
• Provide assistance to other departments as needed.
• Performs other duties as required.

• Waste refuse is picked up in a timely, efficient and safe manner.
• The Collection vehicle is clean and well maintained.
• Employee understands and adheres to applicable safety policies.
• Effective working relations exist with co-workers, supervisors and other City personnel.
• Vehicle driver is appropriately informed of any issues, concerns or developments.
• New employees are assisted.
• The City’s professional reputation is maintained.

EDUCATION/

EXPERIENCE:

No previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required.

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES: Additional related training preferred.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: Basic knowledge of motor vehicles and hydraulics is preferred.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

• Accurate and attentive to detail.
• Ability to assist and support others.

FINGER DEXTERITY: Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, work with fingers, and perceive attributes of objects and materials.

VISUAL ABILITIES: Normal vision, with or without corrective lenses.

PHYSICAL STRENGTH: PDC Level: Very Heavy Employee lifts/carries 50 lbs occasionally (less than 33% of the time or 1-100 times per day); exerts push/pull strength of 100 lbs. Ability to ascend/descend an 18" step. Frequent standing, over head reaching and lifting, bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing, and balancing required.
