Job Description & How to Apply Below

Are you passionate about plants, hands on in the greenhouse, and eager to contribute to the development of cucumber breeding programs? Do you have a university background in plant breeding and are you interested in data‑driven approaches and applied breeding? Then this position as Intern might be the perfect first step for you at Enza Zaden! Cucumber Breeding Programs rely on the evaluation of numerous phenotypic traits throughout the crop cycle to support selection decisions.

However, some traits may be strongly correlated, meaning that certain measurements could provide overlapping information. A better understanding of these relationships offers an opportunity to streamline phenotyping protocols. In parallel, optimizing the timing and frequency of trait evaluation could reduce labor while maintaining robust and reliable data for decision‑making.

Objectives
  • Participating in the phenotyping of traits within an active breeding program
  • Identifying correlations, redundancy among traits or overlapping information between cucumber traits
  • Assessing the appropriate frequency of trait evaluation during the crop cycle
  • Proposing an optimized phenotyping strategy aligned with the product model
Expected Outcomes
  • A comprehensive report outlining recommendations for optimal trait scoring frequency across the crop cycle

You collaborate closely with your breeder and teammates in an open, international, data‑ and knowledge‑driven environment.

What you bring as a future intern
  • A background in plant breeding, plant sciences, agronomy
  • A strong affinity for plant‑based work in the greenhouse
  • Strong analytical and statistical skills
  • Interest in data‑driven approaches and applied breeding
  • Experience with data analysis tools (e.g., R, Python) is an advantage
  • Ability to work independently and in close collaboration
Benefits
  • A good internship allowance
  • Access to our tailor‑made global e‑learning platform
  • Vacation days
