Job Summary

Provides empathetic pharmacy consulting services to patients regarding the effective use of medications and drug interaction awareness. Offers preventive and clinical healthcare services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcome services. Ensures prescribed medications are compounded, reviewed, dispensed, and verified accurately according to regulatory guidelines and company policies and procedures. Manages an efficient pharmacy workflow and improves pharmacy financials, manages inventory effectively, and enhances patient experience.

Manages pharmacy staff performance and engagement. Ensures the professional development of pharmacy staff by overseeing training, focused coaching, and executing formal performance management initiatives.

Job Responsibilities
  • Patient

    Experience:

    Engages patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves patient issues in a timely manner and answers questions to ensure a positive patient experience.
  • Customer service leadership:
    Models and shares customer service best practices with all team members to deliver a distinctive and joyful patient experience, including interpersonal habits that show care and Walgreens service traits.
  • Patient engagement:
    Connects with patients by anticipating needs and proactively offering services; leads efforts to enhance patient experience by increasing awareness of healthcare services offered through Walgreens (e.g., patient consultation, medication management, drug therapy reviews, immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcomes services).
  • Community events:
    Participates in events that reflect the communities served, as requested by Store Manager, Healthcare Supervisor, or District Manager.
  • Operations:
    Counsels patients on usage of medicines, side effects, interactions, contraindications, privacy, generics, cost-effective options, and OTC products. Refers to medical providers as needed to ensure proper medication use and satisfaction with service.
  • Pharmacy tasks:
    Performs compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management. Reviews, interprets, and dispenses prescribed medications in accordance with regulations and standards.
  • Compliance and workflow:
    Ensures the pharmacy operates in accordance with regulations, company policies and standards; establishes procedures to promote efficient workflow; manages scheduling, roles, and coordination; responsible for opening/closing the pharmacy and shift changes.
  • Policy compliance:
    Ensures use of Good Faith Dispensing elements in accordance with state and federal laws when filling prescriptions.
  • Strategic collaboration:
    Collaborates with Store Manager to define and develop new strategic business opportunities.
  • Technology and IT:
    Maintains knowledge of pharmacy systems (workflow, prescription fulfillment, billing, clinical documentation, training, inventory, POS); supports staff and patients with information technology; identifies opportunities to improve productivity.
  • Insurance and issues resolution:
    Ensures insurance claims are processed accurately to minimize rejections; resolves patient issues by working with insurers and providers; may participate in third-party audits.
  • Clinical engagement:
    Follows up with medical providers to clarify medications, dosages, refills, interactions, and allergies; supports diagnostic testing and disease state management; performs clinical and wellness services such as immunizations and other healthcare services.
  • Community and central support:
    Partners with centralized support for patient registration and exception resolution; in virtual environments, conducts virtual product reviews per company procedures.
  • Facilities management:
    Manages maintenance, housekeeping, and improvement of the pharmacy department, including repairs, cleaning, new equipment, and layout changes to ensure a functional and presentable environment.
  • Records and reporting:
    Prepares and submits records and reports required by state and federal laws (e.g., operating statements, performance indicators, supervision notes).
  • People & Performance Management:
    Collaborates with Store Manager on staff hiring, discipline/termination as needed, and ensures compliance with employment laws.
  • Staff development:
    Establishes expectations and goals, promotes teamwork, recognizes improvements via rewards programs, and oversees training and formal performance reviews.
  • Talent management:
    Identifies high-potential team members and collaborates on career progression.
  • Employee relations:
    Addresses concerns, maintains morale, handles complaints and conflicts, and supports positive employee relations.
  • Training & Personal Development:
    Maintains licensing/credentialing, expands knowledge through journals and company publications, pursues best practices, completes required training, and seeks professional development with mentors.
