Emergency Room Technician

Job Summary and Responsibilities

This job is responsible for assisting in the delivery of patient care and performance of established tasks and procedures under the supervision of a physically-present and immediately-available Registered Nurse/Provider. An incumbent performs clinical procedures and tasks within scope of practice.

• Assists in implementing plan of care by performing common clinical procedures and tasks within scope of practice.
• Basic Airway Management
• CPR
• Vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, oral and rectal temperature, respirations, and pulse oximetry
• Electrocardiogram
• Point of care testing
• Wound care including suture set-up
• Assisting with eye and ear irrigation
• Orthopedic splinting
• Visual acuity
• Suture/staple removal
• Assisting with gastric lavage
• Assisting with activities of daily living
• Peak flow
• Breath alcohol
• Assists with removal of peripheral IV and urinary catheters
• Conducts clinical activities requiring a Medical Assistant-Phlebotomy certification, such as blood glucose checks and phlebotomy.
• Decontamination/Washdown with Level C Bio-Haz Suit and powered respirator

High School Graduate or High School GED and completion of one of the following that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities:
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program OR Medical Assistant program OR Certified Nursing Assistant Program, OR Licensed Practical Nurse program OR completion of one year of nursing school.
