Our client, an established further education provider, is seeking a Transitions Officer to support students with special educational needs as they move from school into college and progress towards further study, supported internships or employment.

About the Role

The role will build strong relationships with school special educational needs coordinators, parents, carers and internal teams to ensure students receive effective, personalised transition support. The successful candidate will arrange transition visits, attend reviews and events, provide classroom support and help students develop greater independence and study skills. This is a varied, student-focused role requiring experience of supporting learners with special educational needs, including social, emotional and mental health needs.

Responsibilities
  • Build trusted professional relationships with school special educational needs coordinators.
  • Liaise with parents and carers to support effective student transitions.
  • Share relevant information and good practice with curriculum and support staff.
  • Attend annual review meetings for students participating in school-link programmes where required.
  • Arrange personalised transition visits based on individual student needs.
  • Represent our client at open days, transition events and activities involving feeder schools and local authorities.
  • Provide in-class support and act as an advocate for students.
  • Help students develop study skills, confidence and independence.
  • Contribute to the monitoring and review of student progress.
  • Work with the Careers team to support progression into supported internships, employment or further study.
  • Complete administrative tasks accurately using relevant IT systems.
  • Adapt support and decision‑making to meet changing student needs.
Qualifications
  • Experience supporting students with special educational needs, including social, emotional and mental health needs.
  • GCSEs or equivalent in English and Maths at grade C or above, or evidence of the ability to support students studying at this level.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Ability to work effectively within a small team.
  • Confidence using initiative and making appropriate decisions independently.
  • Ability to represent an education provider professionally and knowledgeably.
  • Adaptable and responsive approach to individual student needs.
  • Good organisational and presentation skills.
  • Confidence using IT for administrative tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective relationships with students, families and professionals.
Pay range and compensation package

Salary: £24,383–£26,932 per annum, based on working a full academic year
