As an Associate Director Electrical Engineer in the Design & Advanced Technology Practice, you will join a multi‑disciplinary team delivering cutting‑edge, iconic projects for water market clients such as Thames Water, Anglian Water, South East Water and Southern Water. The role involves hybrid working, with 3 days per week in office or site, and may be based in London, Epsom, Peterborough or Cambridge.

As an Associate Director Electrical Engineer, the successful candidate will:
- Own and direct a team of Electrical & ICA engineers for delivery of technical design work on complex multi‑disciplinary projects following relevant client and project‑specific design codes and standards.
- Manage time and budgets of the Electrical & ICA team to key project milestones and programmes.
- Direct and review technical deliverables such as Single Line Diagrams, Cable Block Diagrams, Load Schedules, MCC specifications, Control Philosophies and Control Network Architecture.
- Provide technical leadership on electrical aspects of complex projects and collaborate with the project management team to ensure on‑time, on‑budget delivery.
- Collaborate with clients, operations teams and other Atkins
Réalis teams. - Provide direction and guidance to Senior and Principal colleagues and lead the growth of the local Electrical & ICA team and wider technical network.
- Work independently, exercising personal judgment to solve difficult problems and support bid proposals.
- Work closely with multi‑disciplinary teams in the UK and overseas to deliver integrated design solutions.
- Set quality assurance standards in design and ensure compliance from Electrical & ICA teams.
- Lead business development initiatives to drive growth in the water market.
- Support leadership and management of the D&A team within the Manchester office.
- A degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Chartered Engineer.
- Proven experience leading or directing an Electrical & ICA engineering design delivery team in a design consultancy within a multi‑disciplinary environment.
- Strong ability to identify innovative solutions to design problems.
- Comprehensive knowledge and practical experience in electrical design.
- Extensive knowledge of water company design codes and standards such as WIMES.
- Strong awareness of HAZOP assessments, lightning strike risk assessments, earthing and bonding, lighting designs, DSEAR and ATEX installation practices.
- Ability to work independently with minimal technical guidance.
- Experience in the water market is preferred, but not required.
- Experience in industrial and process environments is essential.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly and effectively within diverse multi‑disciplinary teams.
- A proactive, highly motivated mindset with a collaborative approach to drive teamwork and shared success across projects.
