Principal Civil Structures Engineer

Overview

We are looking for an energetic and experienced Principal Civil Structures Engineer to join our Design & Advanced Technology (D&AT) Practice. This role involves delivering transformational programmes for critical UK infrastructure across Energy, Defence and Nuclear sectors such as Hinkley Point C, Sizewell C, EPR2 and Ministry of Defence Frameworks.

The candidate will work on landmark engineering projects both domestically and internationally, providing client‑side and construction‑phase support across the project lifecycle.

We offer hybrid working with 3 days per week office/site based.

Location:

London or Epsom.

• Coordinate or manage a team of Civil Structural engineers for the delivery of technical design work on complex multi‑disciplinary projects following relevant codes and standards.
• Produce and review technical deliverables such as design reports, drawings, calculations and scopes of work.
• Provide technical input into project design deliverables and work with project management to manage time and budgets to key milestones.
• Collaborate with clients, operational, project or service activities within the team and across Atkins
  
  Réalis teams.
• Mentor less experienced colleagues, grow capabilities within the local team, exercise judgement to solve complex problems.
• Provide technical support for bid proposals.
• Work with multi‑disciplinary team in the UK and overseas to deliver integrated design solutions.
• Adhere to quality assurance standards, review own and others’ work.

• A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Chartered or Incorporated Civil/Structural Engineer.
• Proven experience coordinating or managing a Civil Structural engineering design delivery team for a design consultancy.
• Strong knowledge of reinforced concrete and steel structures, Eurocodes, CDM Regulations; knowledge of other international codes is beneficial.
• Experience in nuclear or defence projects is beneficial.
• Experience in dynamic or seismic design is beneficial.
• Proficiency in analytical software such as Tekla, Robot or STAAD.
• Strong communication skills, proactive mindset, collaborative approach.

• Ability to work independently with minimal technical guidance.
• Work across multi‑disciplinary environments.

This role may require security clearance. Offer of employment will depend on obtaining the relevant level of clearance, discussed  vetting process is delivered by UKSV and may require proof of residency in the UK of 5 years or longer.
