DEPARTMENT/PROJECT OVERVIEWThe Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego (BGCGSD) changes lives through quality programs and guidance in a safe, affordable and fun environment. Under the direct supervision of the Site Supervisor, the ASES Group Leader will provide virtual and classroom instruction, assistance and tutoring to students in the after school program, and will lead engaging culturally rich academic, enrichment, and recreation activities. Group Leaders work with groups of approximately 10 to 20 youth, guiding them through recreational and developmental activities in multiple areas, reinforcing academic, physical, and social skills through high‑yield learning activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Ensures programs and activities adhere to current health and safety protocols.
- Assist with the development of a virtual online program.
- Utilize virtual conferencing programs.
- Follow current safety protocols (face coverings, social distancing, hand washing, etc.).
- Perform various administrative tasks, including answering emails.
- Supervise members in the program area; monitor safety and behavior, maintain a safe environment, and implement discipline techniques and classroom management.
- Demonstrate positive values and ethical behavior through program quality and appearance of the Club.
- Lead organized learning activities for students to develop academic, physical, and social skills.
- Participate as an active, positive team member with supervisor, staff, volunteers, and members by communicating effectively.
- Develop culturally relevant daily lesson plans and activities.
- Differentiate lessons and activities for students with various abilities.
- Coordinate assigned program services and cooperative learning activities that are fun and instructional; evaluate effectiveness of activities and events.
- Offer guidance and role modeling to members; promote participation in programs.
- Responsible for daily set‑up and clean‑up of all materials used during the program.
- Maintain equipment in good condition and instruct proper safe use.
- Maintain accurate program attendance records and submit them in a timely manner.
- Perform janitorial duties or manual labor as needed (mopping, cleaning tables, trash removal, painting, etc.).
- Display a high level of enthusiasm and commitment for activities.
- Be available to commute to the school site to provide education packets or activity kits to families.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must be at least 18 years of age with a High School diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 48 units of college curriculum or completion of the Classroom Assistant Proficiency Exam (CAPE), or a combination of knowledge and experience.
- Preferred: one year of direct experience working with school‑aged youth and knowledge of youth development.
- Preferred: experience using communication tools like Zoom and Skype.
- Effective communication through virtual conferencing programs.
- Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth; instruct, coach, and direct varied activities.
- Skill in creating and supervising a positive learning environment, incorporating academics, enrichment, and recreation; motivate and engage youth and manage behavioral challenges with peer mediation.
- Proficient computer skills—Microsoft Office, email, internet research, social media navigation.
- Ability to lead and control groups of children in recreational and educational activities.
