Back Office Technician

Back Office Technician – Full‑time

Perform patient care, office and laboratory duties for an ophthalmology clinic. Assist optical professionals with patient treatment and examinations.

• Prepare patients for treatment and assist doctors in a positive and professional environment.
• Collect and document patients’ chief complaint and ocular/medical history, including medications.
• Obtain and ensure patients read and sign consent forms.
• Administer refractions, visual acuity assessments, intra‑ocular pressure tests with a Tonopen, fundus photography, visual field tests, fluorescein angiograms, and indocyanine green angiograms.
• Administer topical ophthalmic and dilation medications and maintain clean, sterile, and stocked examination rooms.
• Provide written instructions and patient education materials and verify patient understanding.
• Document and summarize ocular examinations while maintaining patient flow and communication regarding appointment status.
• File patient forms and update information in the EMR system.
• Maintain professional appearance and demeanor, comply with state, federal, and clinic regulations (OSHA, HIPAA, ADA, etc.).
• Other duties as assigned by management.

• High School education, GED, or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance; ability to travel to other clinics.
• Experience in the ophthalmic industry and as a Back Office Technician (desirable).
• Certified Ophthalmic Technician or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (preferred).
• Proficiency with WORD, EXCEL, and standard office equipment.
• Team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Primarily an office classification with controlled temperature and low to moderate noise level.
• Regularly sit, stand, walk, handle, reach with hands and arms, lift and carry reports or other materials weighing less than 20 pounds.
• Occasionally stoop, kneel, bend, or crouch.
• Finger dexterity needed for computer keyboard and calculator use.
