Why Join Us?

  • Work on complex medical and precision-machined components
  • Opportunity to program and optimize advanced CNC manufacturing processes
  • Competitive pay, PTO, and comprehensive benefits
  • Collaborative culture focused on continuous improvement and operational excellence
  • Growth opportunities within a highly skilled manufacturing environment

We are seeking an experienced Lead Swiss CNC Set-up Machinist to be responsible for independently setting up, troubleshooting, and supporting the operation of 8-axis CNC machines (Tsugami, Citizen). This role involves precision setup of complex, tight-tolerance parts, program verification, tooling configuration, and in-process inspections to ensure that production meets engineering specifications, quality standards, and delivery goals.

Key Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform full set-ups on Swiss-style CNC machines for both new and repeat production jobs.
  • Interpret setup sheets, programs, and part prints to determine correct tooling, bar stock, collets/guide bushings, and sub-spindle usage.
  • Lead, mentor, and assist in troubleshooting with other Set-up Machinists.
  • Load, verify, and adjust programs (Fanuc, Mitsubishi, or other OEM-specific controls).
  • Confirm proper alignment, tooling clearance, spindle speeds, and feed rates for small diameter, high-precision components.
  • Execute First Article Inspections (FAI) using micrometers, comparators, and other high-precision measuring equipment.
  • Adjust tool offsets, spindle sync, and bar feeder parameters as necessary to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish.
  • Troubleshoot issues such as chip buildup, coolant flow, bar feeder jams, or tooling failures during setup and startup.
  • Record and document setup information, including photos, tool lists, and critical setup parameters for future repeatability.
  • Monitor and ensure bar feeder alignment, material feed, and cutting tool performance throughout setup.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the machine, bar feeder, chip conveyors, and surrounding work area.
  • Assist operators with startup and handoff to production; provide support during first-run validation.
  • Accurately enter job status and inspection results in ERP (e.g., JobBOSS).
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks and report larger machine issues to maintenance or supervisors.
  • Comply with all safety protocols and standard operating procedures.
  • Identify and recommend continuous improvement opportunities related to cycle time, tooling, and part quality.
  • Swiss Machining Expertise – Strong understanding of CNC processes, live tooling, and synchronized operations.
  • Blueprint Reading – Ability to read and interpret GD&T, microns-based tolerances, and complex part geometries.
  • Precision & Quality Focus – Demonstrated ability to maintain tight tolerances on small parts with attention to detail.
  • Problem Solving – Capable of quickly diagnosing setup, tooling, or machine issues and implementing effective solutions.
  • Documentation – Organized approach to capturing setup documentation for future use and traceability.
  • Safety & Awareness – Strong understanding of machine motion and pinch points.

Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED; technical certificate or AAS in Machining preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of CNC machining experience (Tsugami, Citizen preferred).
  • Experience working with medical, aerospace, or high-precision small parts manufacturing is a plus.
  • Familiarity with CAM program verification (Mastercam, Esprit, or similar) is a plus.
  • ERP system experience preferred (JobBOSS or similar).
