Position SummaryThe Social Service Assistant/Driver's primary responsibilities include providing support to officers in social service activities and driving to various locations to pick up food for the Feeding San Diego recovery program. Responsibilities also include assisting clients with various social service programs, reporting to Feeding San Diego, keeping food areas clean and organized, and helping drive for Kettles and toys when needed.
EssentialFunctions
- Driving to pick up food and other supplies from various retail outlets.
- Seasonal driving responsibilities, including the Christmas season.
- Assist in the distribution of food, food boxes, packing and storing food boxes, and maintaining food storage areas when not driving. Assist clients when the pantry is up and running.
- Keep a detailed log of donations and maintain computer data entry including monthly reports to the Salvation Army and to Feeding San Diego, vehicle mileage, and entering mobile service client data into Well Sky and Corps management or other programs as directed.
- Help maintain vehicle: car wash, oil changes, fueling, cleanliness, and reporting incidents immediately.
- Maintain good public relations, and function in harmony with Salvation Army guidelines.
- Answer the telephone, make phone calls, open the door when available, and interact with clients needing services when not driving.
- Attend all in‑service workshops and staff meetings.
- Maintain professional attitude and demonstrate problem‑solving approaches.
- Meet certification by and participate in The Salvation Army's Fleet Safety Program (no more than two moving violations or accidents in any 12‑month period).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist on an intermittent or continuous basis; lift up to 50 lbs; grasp, push, pull, reach overhead; operate computer, fax, and telephone.
Minimum Qualifications- High school graduate or equivalent (preferred).
- Valid Class C California driver’s license.
- Read, write, and communicate well in English.
- Basic computer knowledge and typing skills (Word, Publisher, Excel).
- Bilingual in English/Spanish helpful.
- Minimum five years of non‑professional driving experience.
- Work well with and relate to people.
- Meet all criminal/fingerprint clearance regulations.
- Detail‑oriented, self‑starter, and team player; can work with and relate to children, parents, and staff in a mature and sensitive manner.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and maintain poise under pressure.
- Ability to access and produce information from computer; use new software programs with basic training.
- Ability and willingness to keep information confidential.
