A Nurse Resident position is a mentored experience designed to facilitate the transition from student to professional nurse. The role involves delivering coordinated nursing care for a patient or an assigned group of patients within an assigned unit and overseeing the day‑to‑day management and supervision of related clinical activities. Responsibilities include supervising and directing the activities of various levels of assigned nursing and ancillary personnel, exercising professional and supervisory discretion and independent judgment.
The nurse must understand and adhere to the California Nurse Practice Act, the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses, the ANA Bill of Rights for Registered Nurses, and the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice for Nurses. Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Additional skills include knowledge of standard office equipment and proficiency with Windows and common Microsoft Office applications.
The position requires compliance with Palomar Health rules, policies, procedures, applicable laws, and standards, and aligns with the organization’s mission, vision, and quality commitment.
- Minimum Education: As required by certification and/or licensure
- Preferred Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing or Masters Entry in a School of Nursing approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing

- Required Certification:
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency RN Pediatric Course (ENPC) within 6 months of hire
- Crisis Prevention (CPI) within 6 months of hire
- American Heart Association recognized Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 90 days of hire
- American Heart Association recognized BLS - Healthcare Provider
