Company Accountant

Location: West Molesey

An established organisation within the health and social care sector is seeking an experienced Company Accountant to take hands-on responsibility for the financial affairs of a multi-company Group.

This is a broad accounting position requiring strong technical knowledge and the ability to personally manage statutory accounting, group accounting, taxation, inter-company accounting, payroll-related accounting, audit preparation and financial compliance.

Key Responsibilities

* Prepare annual statutory accounts and ensure compliance with UK accounting standards and statutory requirements.

* Maintain accurate accounting records, year-end schedules, reconciliations and supporting documentation.

* Prepare monthly management accounts, including profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow and variance analysis.

* Maintain accurate accounts across individual Group companies and support consolidated financial reporting.

* Manage inter-company ledgers, transactions and control accounts, including monthly reconciliations and investigation of discrepancies.

* Manage Corporation Tax, VAT, PAYE, National Insurance and CIS requirements where applicable.

* Prepare VAT returns and reconciliations and maintain appropriate supporting records.

* Manage HMRC correspondence and respond to routine enquiries and information requests.

* Maintain accurate payroll accounting records, journals and control accounts.

* Support Companies House compliance and statutory filing requirements.

* Prepare audit schedules, working papers and supporting documentation for external auditors.

* Respond to audit queries and support the resolution of audit findings.

* Maintain effective financial controls, payment controls, audit trails and appropriate segregation of duties.

* Identify financial risks, accounting irregularities and weaknesses in financial controls and escalate significant matters appropriately.

* Provide accurate financial information to Directors and senior management to support business decision-making.

* Maintain financial records to a standard suitable for regulatory and contractual scrutiny within a regulated health and social care environment.

About You

* At least 10 years' relevant accounting experience, including substantial hands-on company accounting experience.

* Proven experience within a multi-company or Group structure.

* Strong technical accounting knowledge with experience of statutory accounts, management accounts and balance sheet control.

* Strong knowledge of UK taxation, VAT, PAYE and National Insurance, with CIS knowledge where applicable.

* Experience dealing directly with HMRC and external auditors.

* Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills.

* Confident using accounting systems and Microsoft Excel or equivalent.

* ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent qualification is desirable; extensive relevant experience will also be considered.

* Experience with in health and social care, another regulated environment or a multi-company organisation would be advantageous.

This is an opportunity for an experienced accountant to take ownership of a broad financial remit within an established organisation, working closely with senior management and contributing to strong financial control, compliance and governance
