Summary: Divide clinical time between the Presbyterian Espanola Hospital (PEH) PMG Renewal Clinic and the PEH Addiction Medicine Consult Service (inpatient and emergency department), treating patients with multiple substance use disorders both in-person and via telemedicine.
Assignment and scheduling to the AMCS vs. Renewal Clinic will be adapted as the service line grows to best fit the needs of the AMCS and Renewal Clinic, taking advantage of the individual physicians training, experience, skills and preferences. For example:
A physician with a primary background in pediatrics may be assigned primarily to the Renewal Clinic (to see adolescents and young adults), with some specific inpatient consultation duties, such as with adolescents, young adults, and newborns.
A physician with a primary background in emergency medicine or internal medicine may be scheduled more often on the AMCS.

Presbyterian Medical Group seeks a Board Certified or Board Eligible Addiction Medicine Physician MD/DO to join our established practice in Espanola, New Mexico. Responsibilities
  • As a member of the PEH Addiction Medicine Consultation Service (AMCS):
    • Evaluate patients in-person at PEH with substance use disorders (SUDs) as needed in the hospital units, including the Intensive Care Unit, Progressive Care Unit (Medical/Surgical unit), Labor & Delivery, Emergency Department, etc.
    • If able, assist with nursery care of newborns experiencing withdrawal in collaboration with pediatricians and L&D nursing staff (if have applicable training in pediatrics)
    • Communicate and collaborate with the attending physician/provider, nursing staff, and care coordination.
    • Collaborate with peer support workers and behavioral health professionals (as available and as applicable).
    • Order appropriate laboratory studies.
    • Initiate medication management for withdrawal management and initiation of long‑term medication management of SUDs.
    • Address co‑occurring behavioral health conditions (e.g., insomnia, anxiety, depression, etc.) as able (depending upon experience and/or training).
    • Prescribe applicable medications as discharge, and order outpatient injectable medications as applicable.
    • Write discharge instructions related to SUD treatment.
    • Write a consultation note in Epic (and follow up notes as indicated) and enter appropriate coding for the consultation.
  • Consultation via telemedicine:
    • Provide services as outlined above via telemedicine to other Presbyterian hospitals as possible (depending on scheduling and staffing of the PEH AMCS, ensuring that consultations needs of PEH are met).
    • Provide services at outlined above to non‑Presbyterian hospitals/facilities (only after such facility is fully contracted and approved by Presbyterian administration), depending on scheduling and staffing of the AMCS (and meeting obligations to PEH and other Presbyterian facilities).
  • As a physician in the PEH Renewal Clinic:
    • Evaluate patients with substance use disorders (SUDs) in the PEH Renewal Clinic, in person and via video (payor permitting).
    • Communicate and collaborate with the nursing staff, care coordination, and patients primary care and other providers.
    • Collaborate with peer support workers and behavioral health professionals (as available and as applicable).
    • Order appropriate laboratory studies.
    • Prescribe applicable medications, and order outpatient injectable medications as applicable.
    • Address co‑occurring behavioral health conditions (e.g., insomnia, anxiety, depression, etc.) as able (depending upon experience and/or training).
    • Provide care instructions related to SUD treatment and other conditions addressed.
    • Write encounter notes in Epic and enter appropriate coding for encounters.
