About the Role

Kha'p'o Community School (KCS) is looking for a Tewa Teacher dedicated to Native language instruction in a Pre‑K‑6th Grade dual language educational environment.

Key duties include developing language curriculum, teaching Tewa, and co‑teaching using a project‑based learning approach. Candidates must be proficient in the Twa language, highly organized, and embody Pueblo core values of Respect, Compassion, Responsibility, Perseverance, Community, and Partnerships.

KCS is a dual language (Tewa/English) Tribally Controlled Grant school serving Santa Clara Pueblo. We currently serve approximately 125 families, prenatal through 6th grade, and adult learners.

We support students in their physical and emotional growth, valuing student identity and promoting high self‑esteem and confidence.

Tewa Teachers are assigned to specific classrooms where they work in close collaboration with the classroom teacher to deliver dual‑language instruction using a project‑based learning approach. This collaborative approach includes developing curriculum and materials, supporting/leading field trips, and promoting Tewa language use throughout the classroom and school.

• High school diploma or GED
• Valid New Mexico driver’s license
• Fluent in Tewa language
• Preferred:
  Santa Clara Pueblo Tewa Language Certification
• Experience teaching Tewa language, especially in an elementary setting
• Willingness to work toward Tribal language certification
• Pass comprehensive background check
• Fully vaccinated against COVID‑19
