- Performs general diagnostic ultrasound exams and related data for subsequent evaluation and treatment by the attending physician.
- Performs all cardiac ultrasound (echocardiograms); produces images of the heart to show hemodynamics and function.
- Performs all routine vascular exams for evaluation of possible abnormal vascular defects or disease.
- Exams are digitally acquired, and measurements are obtained per each specific modality. Ensures patient safety through the use of procedure protocols and policies.

Job Description- Perform general ultrasound, vascular ultrasound, and echocardiogram studies independently.
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the practice of general ultrasound, vascular ultrasound, and echocardiography.
- Apply independent judgment during the exam to determine the need for any additional imaging enhancement.
- Recognize, fully evaluate, and document any abnormalities or anomalies in general ultrasound, vascular exams, and echocardiograms.
- Requires detailed knowledge of anatomy, pathophysiology, and principles of ultrasound.
- Demonstrates knowledge and critical thinking skills with the ability to recognize, analyze, and resolve problems to ensure completion of performed exam(s).
- Alert provider to critical findings.
- Assists provider in procedures, such as needle biopsies, amniocentesis, renal biopsies, etc. Scans and marks the patient's body to determine the ideal angle for punctures and assists as necessary.
- Knowledge and understanding of sterile techniques throughout the procedure.
- Knowledge and understanding of high-level disinfection (HLD) process.
- Accurately completes charges for all exams performed in the EHR system as well as initiates and assigns the preliminary report in PACS.
- Attends section staff meetings, pertinent in-services, workshops and/or seminars for continuing education to enhance professional growth and development.
- Prepare exam room and ultrasound equipment to conduct sonography examinations by infection disease, and patient safety protocols, policies, and procedures.
- Maintains and documents communications with physicians and nursing units regarding test results.
- Maintains established hospital/departmental and specialty area(s) and ultrasound policies, procedures, competencies, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- Communicate with the patient in a manner appropriate to the patient: ability to understand.
- Function as a team member to organize and prioritize responsibilities to complete daily work requirements.
- Participates in and endorses the established PHS Policies and Procedures and guest relations programs.
- Knowledge of Joint Commission regulations for the department.
- Available for on-call as needed.
- Assists in maintaining upkeep of department and equipment - including ordering and stocking supplies when necessary.
- Works with, oversees any ultrasound student.
- Performs other duties and functions as required.
- Associates Degree in related health science or graduate of an accredited program preferred in related field.
- 1-5 years related experience.
- New Mexico State Licensure under the New Mexico Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Program (DMS, VS).
- Current BLS required.
- 2 Sections of the following are required:
- Diagnostic Medical Sonography:
Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer credential with one of the following specialties through ARDMS:
Abdomen (AB), Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN), Breast (BR), Pediatric Sonography (PS) or Sonographer credential through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists: ARRT (S). - Cardiac Sonography:
Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer credential with one of the following specialties through ARDMS:
Adult Echocardiography (AE), Pediatric Echocardiography (PE), Fetal Echocardiography (FE) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer credential through Cardiovascular Credentialing International: (RCS). - Vascular Sonography:
