Position Summary
The Director of Human Resources plans, leads, directs, develops, and coordinates NNMC’s HR policies, procedures, processes, and activities, ensuring legal compliance and implementation of the college’s mission. The role oversees HR staff, reports to the President, and serves as the institution’s Equal Employment Officer.
Duties & Responsibilities- Plan, lead, develop, coordinate, and implement HR policies, processes, training, initiatives, and surveys to support compliance and strategy.
- Administer HR programs including recruitment, selection, job descriptions, employment contracts, personnel records, classification, compensation, benefits, leave, payroll, employee and labor relations, disciplinary matters, disputes, investigations, performance and talent management, productivity, recognition, morale, occupational health and safety, and training.
- Identify staffing needs, develop best practices for hiring and talent management, oversee recruitment and selection processes, ensure compliance with policies and laws, assist departments in screening and interviewing.
- Maintain recruitment records, review job descriptions, serve as HRIS subject matter expert, conduct research and analysis of organizational trends, monitor compliance with employment laws, recommend best practices.
- Identify training needs, develop and deliver training on labor relations, employee relations, and other topics.
- Interpret and advise on collective bargaining agreements, participate in labor negotiations, develop bargaining parameters and procedures.
- Maintain employee relations databases, collect and analyze data, prepare reports.
- Supervise personnel, advise on hiring, firing, performance evaluations, training, work allocation, problem resolution.
- Review, maintain, and recommend revisions to handbooks and collective agreements.
- Monitor hiring, promotions, demotions, terminations; assist employees on personnel matters; advise management; coordinate with legal counsel.
- Responsible for HR budget, personnel records, classification and reorganization requests, unemployment applications, HR process improvement team.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Management, or related field.
- Five years of related experience, including management, supervisory, or specialized experience.
Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Management, or related field.
- Certifications:
SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR. - Experience in higher education HR.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, negotiation, conflict management, organizational, time management, analytical, problem‑solving, supervisory, and leadership skills.
- Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations, HRIS and talent management systems, Microsoft Office, strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, compensation, benefits, customer service, and personnel recruitment and training.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, delegate, and make sound judgments.
- Normal office environment; prolonged sitting, computer use; lift up to 15 pounds.
