We are currently hiring an experienced Technical Machinist to join our renowned team at Humphrey Munson. Based in Felsted, Essex, you’ll work alongside a talented group of cabinetmakers dedicated to producing exceptional bespoke cabinetry.
The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, motivated, proactive, and possess a positive attitude.
Humphrey Munson is a tight-knit company built on the principles of meritocracy. Every team member plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth transition from design to manufacturing and through to installation.
We take great pride in being a British manufacturer, using traditional joinery techniques to create our award-winning kitchens.
If you’re passionate about craftsmanship and want to contribute to a dynamic and respected team, we’d love to hear from you.
The role of Technical Machinist will involve the following:- Set up, program and operate advanced machinery to manufacture bespoke cabinetry components with precise tolerances and exceptional finish.
- Interpret technical drawings, CAD files, and project specifications to produce high-quality, custom products.
- Ensure machines are calibrated, maintained, and running at optimal efficiency, addressing issues promptly to minimise downtime.
- Monitor ongoing operations closely, making necessary adjustments for complex geometries typical in bespoke cabinetry.
- Collaborate with the design and technical productions teams to translate conceptual designs into manufacturable programs, ensuring feasibility and optimal machining strategies.
- Maintain an organised library of machining programs and templates for repeatability and efficiency.
- Actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by suggesting process, tooling, or programming enhancements.
- Maintain meticulous records of production runs, setups, and any deviations from standard procedure.
- Software Programming & CAD/CAM Integration:
Leverage advanced software tools, with a focus on Alphacam, for generating efficient and accurate machine code for 5‑axis CNC tasks. Utilise NC‑HOPS and WoodWOP as needed for specific project requirements or legacy tasks.
- Proven experience operating and programming woodworking machinery, specifically in the context of bespoke or custom cabinetry fabrication. Ideal candidates will have experience operating and programming 5 axis CNC machines with Alphacam and NC‑HOPS.
- Expert proficiency in Alphacam, with the ability to exploit its full range of features for complex, multi‑axis machining processes—ensuring efficient toolpaths, collision avoidance, and precision finishing.
- Strong working knowledge of NC‑HOPS software (and ideally WoodWOP), with the flexibility to adapt to multiple platforms as project needs dictate.
- Solid understanding of woodworking principles, joinery, and finishing techniques relevant to high‑end cabinetry.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and CAD models with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot both software and mechanical issues independently and efficiently.
- Keen attention to quality, craftsmanship, and project timelines, with a dedication to exceeding client and company standards.
- Comfort in a fast‑paced, collaborative workshop environment, with the flexibility to handle multiple projects and changing priorities.
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with design, engineering, and production teams.
