Accounts Assistant - in Practice Accounting

Reed Practice is seeking an Accounts Assistant to join our client's friendly and collaborative Business Team in Ipswich. This is an excellent opportunity for someone currently studying towards their ACA or ACCA qualification who is looking to gain broad exposure to a varied client portfolio while receiving ongoing training, mentoring and support.

Working closely with colleagues across their various offices, you'll support a range of owner‑managed businesses and private clients, helping to deliver critical financial information and exceptional client service.

As an Accounts Assistant, you'll play a key role in supporting the preparation of financial accounts and tax returns while developing your technical expertise within a highly respected practice environment.

Key responsibilities include:

• Preparing accounts for limited companies, sole traders and partnerships.
• Assisting with corporation tax computations and returns.
• Supporting the preparation of personal, partnership and business tax returns.
• Completing bookkeeping assignments and account reconciliations.
• Preparing VAT returns and assisting clients with Making Tax Digital requirements.
• Supporting the production of management accounts and financial reporting.
• Liaising with clients to gather information and answer queries.
• Maintaining accurate working papers and client records.
• Working with accounting software including Xero, Quick Books, Sage and CCH.
• Collaborating with colleagues across the wider Business Services team to deliver excellent client outcomes.

We're looking for someone who is eager to learn, enjoys working with clients and is committed to building a long‑term career in accountancy.

You’ll ideally have:

• AAT Level 4 qualification.
• Current ACA or ACCA study underway.
• Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach.
• Good working knowledge of Excel and cloud‑based accounting software.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
• A proactive mindset with strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• The confidence to work independently while knowing when to seek guidance.

Previous experience within an accountancy practice would be advantageous, but it is not essential. Our client values attitude, enthusiasm and a genuine desire to develop.
