We are looking for a motivated and commercially minded Junior Estimator to join our growing team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a construction or electrical background who is looking to develop their career within estimating and commercial project management. The successful candidate will gain exposure to a diverse range of projects, from smaller works valued at approximately £10,000 through to major projects in excess of £10 million.
You will work closely with experienced estimators, project managers, suppliers and clients, developing your technical and commercial knowledge while supporting the preparation of accurate and competitive project estimates.
The RoleAs a Junior Estimator, you will support the estimating team throughout the tendering process, helping to ensure projects are priced accurately, competitively and within required timescales.
- Reviewing drawings, specifications, scopes of work and tender documentation.
- Assisting with the preparation of detailed project estimates and quotations.
- Taking off quantities from drawings and project information.
- Obtaining and analysing material, labour and subcontractor costs.
- Liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations.
- Assisting with the preparation of bills of quantities and pricing schedules.
- Identifying project requirements, exclusions, risks and potential commercial opportunities.
- Supporting senior estimators with larger and more complex tenders.
- Maintaining accurate estimating records and project information.
- Assisting with tender submissions and ensuring deadlines are met.
- Developing an understanding of project costs, margins and commercial considerations.
- Working with the wider project team to ensure a smooth handover from estimating to delivery.
- Building knowledge of current construction methods, materials, labour rates and market conditions.
We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about developing a career in estimating and has a genuine interest in the construction and commercial industry.
Ideally, you will have:
- Previous experience or qualifications within construction, electrical engineering, building services or a related discipline.
- A good understanding of construction or electrical installations and associated materials.
- The ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- The ability to organise your workload and work to tight deadlines.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- A willingness to learn and develop professionally.
- A commercial mindset and an interest in understanding how projects are priced and delivered.
Previous estimating experience would be advantageous but is not essential. We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong technical foundation who are looking to take the next step in their career.
