Essex, Oxfordshire, Dorset, Suffolk & Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
1st Staff Limited is a leading nationwide alternative education provider. We work with children and young people aged 4–25, delivering tailored educational and therapeutic support through highly skilled specialist staff.
About the RoleWe are currently seeking several dedicated 1:1 Tutor’s to support children and young people with a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Educational and Mental Health needs (SEMH) and challenging behaviours, across England.
1st Staff provide a support network for all our tutors; we have a lead tutor for your specific area, Designated Safeguarding Leads, curriculum leads for Maths and English, behavioural specialist and a Head of Education.
You will deliver engaging, personalised learning sessions on a one-to-one basis to students who are unable to access mainstream education. This is a rewarding role for someone who is patient, caring, and able to build strong, positive relationships with young people.
Experience as a Teacher, Teaching Assistant, Tutor, or Mentor is highly desirable.
Responsibilities- Assess students' academic needs and develop personalised lesson plans to address those needs.
- Utilise effective teaching strategies to engage students and enhance their understanding of the subject matter.
- Monitor and track students' progress, providing regular feedback.
- Adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
- Maintain a positive and supportive learning environment for students.
- Previous experience working with young people in an educational setting, such as tutoring, teaching, mentoring etc.
- Confidence working with a range of SEN/SEMH needs and challenging behaviours.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively explain concepts to students of all ages.
- Knowledge of various tutoring techniques.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to build rapport with students.
- Flexibility in adapting to different student needs and learning styles.
- Ability to plan and deliver engaging, structured lessons.
- A flexible, supportive, and student-centred approach.
- Having access to your own transport or the ability to travel is not essential but would be beneficial.
- Excellent hourly pay rates, dependent on experience and qualifications.

Tutor employment status:
This is not a self-employed tutoring/teaching position; you will work through a zero-hour contract basis and will be paid via PAYE.
