Primary Teacher Seeking to Transition into SENCO Role

About Us:

We are a dynamic and inclusive primary school in Maldon, committed to providing an exceptional education for all our students, with a particular focus on those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Our growing SEND provision is a cornerstone of our school, and we are looking for passionate and experienced teachers who are ready to transition into the SENCO role.

Role Overview:

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified teacher with SEND experience who is eager to take the next step in their career. As SENCO, you will lead our SEND provision, overseeing the support for children with high needs, particularly non-verbal autistic students. You will also manage and mentor a dedicated team of SEND Learning Support Assistants (LSAs), ensuring that every child receives the tailored support they need to thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the SEND provision across the school, transitioning from a teaching role to a leadership position.
  • Develop and implement individualised education plans (IEPs) for students with SEND.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external professionals to ensure comprehensive and effective support for SEND students.
  • Manage and support a team of SEND LSAs, providing guidance, training, and professional development.
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
  • Monitor and assess students' progress, adjusting strategies and interventions as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with SEND legislation and school policies.
  • Provide training and support to staff on inclusive teaching practices and SEND best practices.
  • Act as a key point of contact for parents and carers regarding SEND provision and student progress.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Experience in teaching and supporting children with SEND, particularly those with high needs such as non-verbal autism.
  • A strong desire to transition into a SENCO role, with a commitment to further professional development in this area.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to inclusive education and the ability to inspire and support both students and staff.
  • Patience, creativity, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding and child protection, and successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS on the update service.
