Wildlife Rescue Society of Saskatchewan (WRSOS)

Location:

Saskatchewan (meetings held virtually and/or in person)
Commitment:
Approximately 10–15 hours per month

The Wildlife Rescue Society of Saskatchewan is a provincially and federally licensed charity dedicated to the rescue, transportation, and release of injured and orphaned wildlife. We operate the provincial Wild Line, provide public education, and coordinate a volunteer-driven network across the province to ensure timely wildlife rescue.

The Treasurer is a key member of the Board of Directors, responsible for overseeing the organization's financial stewardship. This volunteer position ensures strong fiscal management, compliance with reporting requirements, and transparent communication of WRSOS’s economic health to the Board and stakeholders. The Treasurer also supports staff and volunteers in day-to-day financial operations.

Key Responsibilities Financial Oversight Monitor the financial management of the organization and ensure alignment with the approved budget.

Work with staff and/or bookkeepers to review monthly financial reports and bank reconciliations.

Ensure proper financial controls and risk management practices are in place.

Payroll & Bookkeeping Oversee and process payroll for staff, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

Ensure compliance with CRA payroll deductions and remittances.

Maintain accurate records in Quick Books Online, including expense tracking, donations, and grant reporting.

Donations & Database Management Support staff and volunteers in financial reconciliation with Canada Helps and Donor Perfect.

Ensure donor records and financial data remain accurate and consistent across platforms.

Provide oversight on donation reporting and charitable receipting processes.

Reporting & Compliance Present regular financial statements at board meetings clearly and understandably.

Oversee preparation of the annual budget, in collaboration with the Board and staff.

Ensure compliance with federal and provincial reporting requirements, including CRA charity filings.

Board & Governance Serve as Chair of the Finance Committee (if applicable).Advise the Board on the financial implications of strategic and operational decisions.

Contribute to fundraising planning and sustainability discussions.

Annual Audit/Review Liaise with external accountants or auditors during year-end review or audit.

Ensure timely preparation and submission of year-end financial statements.

System Building & Succession Build upon financial and reporting systems already in place.

Document procedures and workflows to ensure smooth transitions for future Treasurers.

Strengthen the sustainability of WRSOS’s financial management practices through clarity and consistency.

Qualifications Experience in accounting, finance, or bookkeeping (CPA designation an asset but not required).Hands-on experience with Quick Books Online and payroll processing required.

Familiarity with Canada Helps and Donor Perfect is an asset.

Knowledge of nonprofit financial practices and CRA charity compliance preferred.

Strong attention to detail and ability to explain financial matters in clear language.

Commitment to WRSOS’s mission of wildlife rescue and education.

Previous board experience is an asset, but not required.

Time Commitment Board Meetings: 1–2 hours monthly (plus preparation time).Payroll & Financial Review: 6–10 hours per month, depending on reporting deadlines.

Annual Filings/Audit Prep:
Additional 10–15 hours annually. Overall: 10–15 hours per month

TermTwo-year renewable term, in accordance with WRSOS bylaws.
