Hays has partnered with a building restoration leader across Canada who is growing their presence in the Greater Toronto Area. Our client has been around for 50+ years and is a third-generation family-run organization. They have an office in Toronto with about 25 individuals and are looking to expand their portfolio in the region.
Your new role
They are looking for a detail‑oriented and highly skilled Estimator with seven years of experience in the building restoration industry. Adept at evaluating project scopes, preparing accurate cost estimates, and supporting successful project delivery acrossmercial, residential, and historical restoration projects. Known for strong analytical skills, deep knowledge of restoration methods, and the ability to collaborate effectively with project managers, subcontractors, and clients.
Key Responsibilities Conduct detailed site assessments to evaluate existing building conditions, structural issues, and restoration requirements.Interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and engineering reports to develop accurate quantity takeoffs.Prepareprehensive cost estimates, including labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.Develop and issue RFPs to subcontractors; analyze bids and negotiate pricing to ensurepetitive and reliable proposals.Collaborate with project managers to create budgets, schedules, and value‑engineering options.Identify project risks, codepliance requirements, and potential scope gaps to ensure accurate forecasting.Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of restoration materials, building envelope systems, waterproofing, masonry repair, concrete restoration, and heritage building techniques.Prepare and present estimate packages to senior leadership and clients.Track project costs and assist with change order pricing, revisions, and cost‑toplete analysis.Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors.Skills &petencies
Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Plan Swift, MS Project, or similar).Strong understanding of building envelope systems, structural repair methods, and restoration best practices.Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem‑solving abilities.Strongmunication skills for client interactions and team collaboration.Ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.Knowledge of local building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.Qualifications
7+ years of experience in building restoration estimating or with a general contractor.Background in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field (preferred).
