In this role, you’ll support hardware development efforts ranging from quick-turn PCB rework to complex test system integrations. You’ll work hands-on with electrical subsystems and harness assemblies to enable fast, efficient prototyping and validation in a dynamic R&D environment.

The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in electrical assembly, soldering, and testing, along with familiarity using lab tools and reading technical documentation such as schematics and BOMs. You are proactive, detail-oriented, and eager to grow your technical skills in a fast-paced R&D environment.

As a Hardware Engineering Technician, you’ll:
  • Assemble, modify, and document cable harnesses and test setups.
  • Perform soldering and PCBA rework on wires (00–35 AWG), SMD chips (0201+), and ICs (QFN, BGA).
  • Support test preparation, execution, data collection, and documentation.
  • Manage lab inventory, equipment, and consumables, including part ordering.
  • Maintain a safe, organized lab environment and contribute to ongoing improvements.
  • Requirements

  • Experience assembling, inspecting, debugging, testing, and repairing PCBAs and cable harnesses
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, circuit board files, BOMs, and engineering drawings
  • Hands-on experience with EE lab equipment (soldering irons, DMMs, power supplies, oscilloscopes, etc.)
  • Proficiency with hardware tools (crimpers, wire strippers, torque drivers, calipers, power drills, etc.)
  • Bonus

    Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or higher in electrical, electronics, or mechanical technology, or an equivalent field
  • Certifications such as IPC-A-610, IPC-A-620, J-STD-001, or IPC-7711/7721
  • Automotive industry experience, including ECU assembly/testing or knowledge of SAE standards
  • Experience coordinating with vendors for lab equipment procurement or maintenance
  • Ability to create or redline harness diagrams and write technical documentation
  • Experience conducting failure analysis and quality inspections on PCBAs and harnesses
  • Familiarity with Ubuntu/Linux command line and/or Python scripting
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Benefits:
  • Pre-tax commuter benefits
  • Employer (Hire Art) subsidized healthcare benefits (Eligibility begins on the first of the month following 60 days of service)
  • Flexible Spending Account for healthcare-related costs
  • Hire Art covers all costs for short- and long-term disability and life insurance
  • 401k package
  • Commitment: This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via Hire Art. This role is onsite and available to candidates local to the Foster City, CA area.
