Hire Art is helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company find a Hardware Engineering Technician to support the Advanced Hardware Engineering team in the testing and development of sensors, compute, and power system Electronic Control Units (ECUs).
In this role, you’ll support hardware development efforts ranging from quick-turn PCB rework to complex test system integrations. You’ll work hands-on with electrical subsystems and harness assemblies to enable fast, efficient prototyping and validation in a dynamic R&D environment.
The ideal candidate has at least 6 years of experience as a technician and a strong background in cable harness assembly, soldering, and PCBA rework. They’re detail-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable shifting between new projects in a fast-paced R&D environment. This role is well suited for a motivated technician who takes pride in craftsmanship, lab organization, and
continuous learning.
As a Hardware Engineering Technician, you’ll:Assemble, modify, and document cable harnesses and test setups.Perform soldering and PCBA rework on wires (00–35 AWG), SMD chips (0201+), and ICs (QFN, BGA).Build and maintain test setups, perform modifications, and support test execution and documentation.Manage lab inventory, equipment, and consumables, including part ordering.Maintain a safe, organized lab environment and contribute to ongoing improvements.Requirements
6+ years of hands-on experience as a hardware or electronics technicianProficiency in cable harness assembly and familiarity with common connector typesExperience assembling, inspecting, debugging, testing, and repairing PCBAs and cable harnessesAbility to read electrical schematics, circuit board files, BOMs, and engineering drawingsExperience using electrical lab tools (soldering irons, DMMs, power supplies, oscilloscopes, etc.)Comfortable with basic workshop and hand tools (crimpers, wire strippers, torque drivers, calipers, drills, etc.)Ability to manage and maintain an organized lab spaceBonus
Qualifications:
Certifications such as IPC-A-610, IPC-A-620, J-STD-001, or IPC-7711/7721Associate degree or higher in electrical, electronics, or mechanical technology (or equivalent)Automotive industry experience (ECU assembly/testing, SAE standards)Experience working with external vendors for equipment procurement or maintenanceFamiliarity with Python scripting and Linux command line environmentsExperience creating or redlining harness diagrams and writing technical documentationExperience performing failure analysis and quality inspections on PCBAs and harnessesAbility to lift up to 50 lbsBenefits:Pre-tax commuter benefitsEmployer (Hire Art) subsidized healthcare benefits (Eligibility begins on the first of the month following 60 days of service)Flexible Spending Account for healthcare-related costsHire Art covers all costs for short- and long-term disability and life insurance401k packageCommitment: This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via Hire Art.
