Summary
The Tapered Drafter is responsible for developing accurate and detailed shop drawings for tapered insulation roofing systems based on project estimates, architectural plans, and project specifications. This role works closely with estimators, project managers, and internal stakeholders to ensure drawings are technically sound, complete, and ready for professional review and field installation.
Key Responsibilities
Drafting & Design
Prepare detailed CAD-based tapered insulation layouts and shop drawings for commercial roofing projectsReview and refine tapered insulation designs provided by estimators and project managersInterpret architectural drawings, specifications, and drainage requirements to ensure accurate design developmentProduce clear, accurate, and high-quality shop drawings including all relevant details required for approval and installationRevise and update drawings based on internal feedback, professional review, or project changesCoordination & Project Support
Collaborate with tapered estimators and project managers during the transition from estimation to shop drawing developmentCoordinate with internal stakeholders to resolve design discrepancies, missing information, or drawing-related issuesManage and prioritize multiple shop drawing requests while ensuring deadlines and project timelines are metDocumentation & Quality
Ensure drawings comply with company standards, project specifications, and applicable construction requirementsMaintain organized project documentation and drawing recordsSupport continuous improvement of drafting standards, templates, and processesPerform other related duties as assignedQualifications
Minimum 2 years of experience in drafting, estimating, or design within the roofing or construction industryMinimum 1–2 years of drafting experience using AutoCAD or similar drafting softwareProficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft OfficeAbility to read and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and construction detailsKnowledge of commercial and industrial roofing systems is considered an assetStrong attention to detail and accuracyStrong analytical, spatial reasoning, and problem-solving skillsStrong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneouslyAbility to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environmentStrong verbal and written communication skills in English are requiredBilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset
