Overview
We are looking for a Data Engineering Student at RBC to contribute to building a next-generation wholesale credit risk data and analytics platform in support of portfolio insight and risk oversight functions in commercial & wholesale credit risk, with a focus on AI-driven data solutions and technology infrastructure buildout.
Responsibilities- Build data solutions by utilizing AI methods and tools.
- Build out the wholesale credit risk platform infrastructure utilizing modern open-source computing technologies.
- Ensure project activities are accomplished within approved scope and time frames.
- Utilize the latest technologies available, designing and building data solutions that meet business needs.
- Be an active contributor to not only your individual team, but to the broader Portfolio Insight and Risk Oversight team within Commercial & Wholesale Credit Risk.
- Constantly seek better ways of doing things, new tools, new technologies, new processes.
- Work on transformational projects that deliver new value.
- Work as part of an agile team responsible for end-to-end delivery of business needs.
Must‑have
- Currently enrolled at a Canadian post‑secondary institution with a focus on data science, computer science, mathematics, statistics, or machine learning.
- Leadership acumen and a passion to apply it in a dynamic business environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and highly developed communication skills (verbal and written).
- Creative and analytical thinker who is self‑driven and capable of working in a fast‑paced environment.
- Experience or understanding of Linux, HDFS, HIVE, Jupyter, Airflow, Git Hub.
- Programming skills in Python, Pandas, PyArrow, SQL.
- Ability to extract, transform, and load data, familiarity with JSON.
- Strong MS Office skills:
Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint.
Nice‑to‑have
- Experience programming with Git Hub Copilot.
- Experience context engineering for Large Language Models.
- Relational database concepts and design experience.
- Ability to learn and absorb new concepts (in business and in systems) quickly and apply new knowledge.
- Network and build lasting relationships with students from diverse backgrounds across Canada.
