Job description

Hire Art is helping our client find an Interpreter (Japanese/English) to join its interpretation team as an on-demand contingent worker.

In this role, you’ll provide high-quality simultaneous and/or consecutive interpretation between Japanese and English. You’ll work closely with meeting owners, business stakeholders, and fellow interpreters to ensure meetings are conducted smoothly and effectively despite language and cultural differences. Your work will help ensure all participants leave meetings with a clear, shared understanding of key discussions, decisions, and next steps.

The ideal candidate is a skilled, collaborative interpreter who is comfortable supporting executive, technical, and cross-functional meetings in fast-paced business environments.

Candidates must be local to the Bay Area (Palo Alto) to support in-person business needs, with advance notice.

As an Interpreter (Japanese/English), you'll:
  • Provide consecutive and/or simultaneous interpretation between Japanese and English for a wide range of meetings, including:

    Executive-level meetings (e.g., board meetings, cross-company meetings, development reviews, off-sites, all-hands, 1:1s, and internal/external events)
    Corporate venture capital-related meetings

Technical meetings related to automotive and software development, including autonomous driving initiatives
  • Listen in one language, accurately interpret meaning and context, and convey the message clearly in the second language while preserving intent and tone.
  • Consult with subject matter experts and colleagues to understand specialized or technical concepts and interpret them appropriately.
  • Ensure interpretations accurately reflect the original message, tone, and nuance.
  • Follow up with internal stakeholders to confirm interpretation needs were met and incorporate feedback for future sessions.
  • Collaborate with interpretation team members in the U.S. and Japan to deliver seamless interpretation support.
  • Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Fluency in both Japanese and English
  • At least 2 years of experience providing simultaneous interpretation for executive-level meetings
  • Experience interpreting a variety of meeting types, including technical, financial, strategic, operational, and cross-company discussions
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other interpreters as trusted partners
  • Ability to quickly learn new subject matter and adapt to different meeting contexts
  • Ability to travel between Bay Area offices as needed, with advance notice
  • Background or experience in automotive, software, or mobility-related industries is a plus!
  • Commitment: This is a part-time, 6-month contract position staffed via Hire Art. The role is on-demand, with hours varying based on business needs.

Hire Art values diversity and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. Unfortunately, we are not able to sponsor visas or employ corp-to-corp.
