Health & Fitness Supervisor (Full Time)

Salary: $47,829/year - $59,786/year

The Health & Fitness Supervisor will lead and be integral to the YMCA’s health and fitness program delivery, staff management and community engagement.

• Hire, supervise and train fitness and strength/conditioning staff and volunteers, including conducting certification observations.
• Develop, control and evaluate the adult programs budget, related statistics and purchase equipment as required.
• Provide direct hands‑on program delivery twice per week or as required to meet area needs.
• Deliver YMCA/AFLCA leadership courses and support roll‑out of new YMCA Canada courses.
• Ensure excellent member service, identifying needs and responding quickly and effectively.
• Represent the branch on the Association’s Adult workgroup and task forces.
• Perform facility Duty Manager shifts, coordinating emergency response and administering first aid and CPR.
• Support the General Manager in community presence and lead the Annual YMCA Campaign.

Requirements:

• Bachelor of Physical Education, Kinesiology or related degree, or equivalent experience.
• Resistance or Group Fitness Training Certification(s) (AFLCA, YMCA courses, etc.).
• Minimum two years’ experience in the field and one‑year supervisory experience.
• CSEP, CEP or CPT certificate preferred.
• Standard First Aid with CPR‑C certification within last 12 months, preferred if issued by a Canadian organization.
• Cleared police security clearance with vulnerable sector search.
• Three professional references.

The Club Manager will oversee gym operations, maintain a judgement‑free member experience and ensure financial success.

Essential duties and responsibilities

• Recruit, hire, train and develop a high‑performing staff (Managers, Service Representatives, Trainers and Custodians).
• Schedule staff and ensure shift coverage.
• Ensure staff provides exceptional customer service and is trained in PF values.
• Administer weekly/bi‑weekly payroll and resolve employee issues.
• Lead by example, providing front desk support and maintaining a welcoming atmosphere.
• Oversee cleanliness and maintenance of facility, including daily cleaning responsibilities.
• Manage marketing efforts, authorize expenditures, prepare HR forms and track statistics.
• Provide backup support for absent employees and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements

• Minimum 18 years of age, high school diploma/GED equivalent, and passion for fitness.
• One to three years of management experience preferred.
• Computer proficiency (Microsoft Suite) and ability to learn systems.
• Strong leadership, team‑building and coaching skills.
• Experience managing customer‑focused teams in fitness or similar industry.
• Exceptional customer service and conflict resolution skills.
• Hard‑working, enthusiastic, energetic management style.
• Good organization, problem‑solving and planning skills.
• Independent and team‑oriented work ability.
• Valid driver’s licence, acceptable driving record and reliable transportation.

Physical Demands

• Continual standing, walking, talking and listening.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and bend, crouch and reach.
• Occasional handling of toxic chemicals.
