Job description

Hire Art is helping our client find an Autonomous Vehicle Test Specialist to bridge on-road safety driving with hands-on system testing and validation.

In this role, you’ll operate and test autonomous vehicles in real-world and controlled environments, executing structured test plans and validating the performance of autonomous driving (AD) software and hardware. You’ll collaborate closely with QA engineers and developers, using basic Linux and command-line tools to pull logs, flash builds, and triage issues.

The ideal candidate combines disciplined, safety-first driving with strong technical curiosity, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate clearly across teams.

As an Autonomous Vehicle Test Specialist, you’ll:
  • Safely operate or supervise autonomous vehicles, intervening when required and conducting pre- and post-shift inspections.
  • Execute structured and exploratory test cases across urban and closed-course environments, accurately logging and tagging data.
  • Extract, verify, and upload test logs using Linux/CLI tools; flash new builds and validate fixes.
  • Reproduce, document, and report issues in Jira or similar systems, collaborating with QA and engineering to provide detailed driver-level context.
  • Mentor junior operators on safety procedures, test protocols, and data collection best practices.
  • Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record for at least 3 years
  • Proven experience in autonomous-vehicle testing, automotive QA, or related technical testing roles
  • Basic proficiency with the Linux command line (ssh, grep, log extraction, flashing)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; familiarity with Jira or similar bug-tracking tools
  • Ability to work flexible shifts and in varied weather conditions
  • High attention to detail, accountability, and adherence to safety standards
  • Bonus

    Qualifications:

  • Experience with ROS, CAN bus tools (CANalyzer, CANoe), or drive-by-wire systems
  • Familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL/SIL) testing or robotics environments
  • Background in defensive driving, motorsports, or related advanced driving disciplines
  • Commitment: This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via Hire Art. It will be onsite and available to candidates local to the Dallas, TX area.

Hire Art values diversity and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. Unfortunately, we are not able to sponsor visas.
