Accountabilities / Responsibilities
Safe nursing practice in all aspects of the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care
Professional, patient-centered care to ensure patient safety and physiological and psychological well-being
Providing care in a compassionate and caring manner within a diverse cultural environment
Practicing according to infection prevention and control measures
Responding to emergency situations by recognizing changes in patient health status and consulting appropriately when necessary using transfer of accountability principles
Providing health teaching to patients and families including thorough discharge instructions to ensure continuity of care in the community
Qualifications
Minimum two years of hemodialysis experience within the last five years
Nephrology certificate required or enrolled and will successfully complete Nephrology certificate within 18 months of hire
Completion of vascular access modules from the Ontario Renal Network required
Must pass nephrology quiz by obtaining 80% to move onto interview phase
Knowledge of the Nephrology Nursing Standard and Practice Recommendation and Canadian Association of Nephrology Nurses and Technologists as they relate to hemodialysis including all procedures pertaining to patient preparation, treatment and monitoring during and after procedure
Core Competencies
Current registration, and in good standing, with the College of Nurses of Ontario
Sound knowledge of nursing process, theory, and responsibilities to the nursing profession
BCLS required
Medication Administration certificate and patient assessment course required for RPNs graduating prior to 2005
Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, conflict-resolution and decision-making skills
Ability to work collaboratively as a member of an inter-professional team
Knowledge of patient and family-centred care
Leadership and facilitation skills
Excellent customer service, organization and critical-thinking skills
Commitment to continuous learning and professional development
Ability to work in a stressful environment
Exemplary clinical practice within an inter-professional team to develop appropriate strategies for patient care
Ability to prioritize patient care needs and make autonomous decisions
Excellent physical assessment skills
Promote a healthy work environment and proactively follow patient safety guidelines
Knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act

Additional information
Currently days/evenings 8 hours including weekends and statutory holidays (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)
Salary:
Minimum: $36.08 per hour;
Maximum: $39.02 per hour
