A Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs a full range of laboratory testing and reports findings to physicians. The MLT must meet CLIA Sec. 493.1495 Standard Testing personnel responsibilities. As an MLT, you will follow specimen handling and processing procedures, conduct test analyses, report results, and maintain thorough records. You must adhere to quality control policies, document quality control activities, instrument calibrations, and maintenance.
When test systems deviate, identify problems, correct them or notify technical staff, and document corrective actions. You will also perform preventative and corrective maintenance on instrumentation, record corrective actions, and participate in continuing education.
Job Responsibilities
- Produce and report appropriate laboratory results in hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, automated chemistry, and serology
- Perform, interpret, and record quality control data in all departments
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on instrumentation as prescribed in procedures
- Call critical results
- Perform inventory and maintain department supplies
- Other tasks and projects as assigned
- Associate Degree in biological science or chemistry required
- Completion of qualified medical laboratory science program or three years of acceptable clinical laboratory experience required
- ASCP or AMT certification preferred
- 2-4 years laboratory experience preferred
