These positions operate assigned equipment in support of public works construction and maintenance projects.
MUST HAVE A CDL TO APPLY!
Major Duties- Operates a variety of equipment in the maintenance and repair of city streets, drainage systems, and other public works infrastructure.
- Operates a variety of hand and power tools, including chain saw, weed eater, blower, shovel, rake, limb saw, etc.
- Assists in traffic control at work sites.
- Performs pre- and post-trip vehicle and equipment inspections.
- Loads dump truck and hauls material to and from work sites.
- Performs public works construction, maintenance, and repair duties; replaces street signs, installs driveways, mows rights-of-way, etc.; pours, spreads, and levels asphalt, concrete, and gravel.
- Operates a sanitation truck along an assigned truck to collect and transport solid waste.
- Attends department meetings and training sessions.
- Performs related duties.
- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of a valid CDL driver’s license is required to operate all types of vehicles or equipment.
- Knowledge of the techniques, equipment, and supplies used in public works maintenance.
- Knowledge of city and departmental safety policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of the geography of the city, including street names.
- Skill in the operation of assigned vehicles, trucks, and equipment.
- Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
- Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
