Position Overview

Instructor Pool - Criminal Justice, posting number 250127. The Social Science Department is seeking a part‑time instructor with expertise in forensic science to teach Introduction to Forensic Science (CJA 214). This is a part of the 2025‑2026 instructor pool, based at the Lane Community College main campus in Eugene, Oregon.

Roles & Responsibilities Essential Functions
  • Comply with College policies and procedures, manage leave time, time sheets, release time, textbook ordering and related functions.
  • Sustain currency in discipline and innovation in teaching.
  • Participate collegially in faculty performance evaluation process.
  • Maintain and post office hours in alignment with College expectations.
  • Maintain physical campus presence for instruction and daily needs of students, departments, college, and community, as per College Operations Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintain student records, attendance, grades, and documentation; ensure a safe, quality classroom or lab including equipment, supplies, inventory.
  • Problem‑solve and manage sensitive information, maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to FERPA standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Curriculum Delivery
  • Provide high‑quality classroom instruction.
  • Create, develop, and revise course content and materials.
  • Establish learning outcomes and assess them using appropriate assessment tools, using results to inform improvements.
  • Incorporate College values and promote a respectful learning environment, including awareness of multicultural and diversity issues.
  • Teach and develop all class syllabi and materials.
  • Confer with students on course materials.
  • Deliver curriculum in traditional and online formats.
Online Teaching & Student Support
  • Engage within the online course environment to ensure Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI).
  • Monitor student progress and provide timely coaching and assistance to struggling students.
  • Review, grade all student work and provide timely, substantive feedback.
  • Provide timely responses to student inquiries.
  • Ensure materials meet Section 508 guidelines.
  • Use effective strategies for teaching online.
Equity and Inclusion
  • Demonstrate social justice values and ensure equity and inclusion skills are embedded in all responsibilities.
  • Act respectfully and inclusively across all categories (age, disability, gender, etc.).
  • Assist with ADA compliance and support appropriate access for persons with disabilities.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with a major in chemistry, biology, physics, lab‑based forensic science, or a closely related lab‑based field.
  • Four (4) years of full‑time experience in criminalistics, forensic science, analytic chemistry, or equivalent work in a forensic environment.
