Position Summary

The Department of Physical Education and Recreation is seeking qualified applicants for its open instruction pool. Positions are limited-duration appointments potentially renewable for up to three years. Course loads will be scheduled on an as-needed basis.

Potential courses may include, but not limited to:
Basketball, Volleyball, Mind-Body, Swimming, Fitness, and Weight Training.

Instructor responsibilities include:
Attend fall department orientation meetings and area-specific training; prepare and deliver class content according to set curriculum; implement the teaching progressions, strategies, techniques, and safety measures outlined by the course calendar; administer assignments and/or tests; follow the course syllabus; keep accurate attendance and performance records; ensure physical participation and help guide improvement through practice; assign grades and submit them online adhering to deadlines set by Office of the Registrar;

implement risk management and safety procedures in the classroom; respond to department communications and follow through with assignments (work calendar, evaluation summary, etc) as requested; understand and follow department and University policies that apply to the teaching appointment.

Instructors are expected to maintain area-specific credentials and keep current in their area of specialty through workshops, conferences, training, networking, and/or reading; and will make themselves available to students before and after class where possible, in person, via email and/or phone. Space will be made available for student conferences upon request.

PE instructors will be made aware of optional opportunities to serve within the department and across the University and may participate in shared governance in the department as outlined in the Physical Education Internal Governance policy document.
